So many things exist online nowadays – including a new special social media award presented by the Australian Hair Fashion Awards and targeted at apprentices. Now, the first winner of the #INSTAHOTY17 (that’s ‘Instagram Hairdresser of the Year) has been announced as Nikki Hazell from é SALON, who was chosen among 500 apprentice entrants, writes Nouruloyun Borghol.

Taking into consideration that many apprentices cannot afford the cost of a professional photo shoot, the competition was simple; grab your phone, take photos of your hair work, enter that piece of hair art and tag it accordingly for the chance to win!

Nikki was chosen due to her superb attention to detail and exceptional braiding work. As her rpize, she was able to shoot her own collection to enter into the Apprentice of the Year category of the AHFAs. The shoot was supported by Milos Mlynarik and Lydia-Jane Saunders, and sponsored by L’Oreal Professionnel.

“To have the opportunity to shoot my first photographic collection as the result of winning a competition is unbelievable and a true pinch me moment,” Nikki said. “The shoot was an amazing experience and is something I will be forever grateful for – to give apprentices such an opportunity is a really encouraging thing for our career in hairdressing.”
