Hair Festival will be a celebration if the hair industry and Joico will be celebrating as well, honouring 50 years of the brand with their specialised ILLUME Education Session, taking place at The ICC, on the afternoon of Sunday June 29.
The session brings together four leading artists in what’s described as a “high-impact showcase of creativity, technique, and innovation”. Centred on the concept of creative duos, Katy Reeve and Carolyn Gahan, as well as Andrew Cobeldick and Mikelah-Jayde Riley, will present in a session compered by are industry icons Kerrie Di Mattia and Duncan Richards.

This dynamic session highlights the connection between structure, tone, and texture—demonstrating how they combine to create hair that shines in every sense.”
You can expect to learn and be inspired by artistic, precision techniques and wearable, salon-ready looks that harness the brand’s 50-year legacy, all with a fresh, modern approach.

Katy will bring her editorial, runway and salon experience, honed backstage at Fashion Weeks in Sydney, London, and Paris, to the education stage. Katy has held roles such as National Creative Director for TONI&GUY Australia and has been recognised with awards like AHIA Sole Operator of the Year and AHFA NSW Hairdresser of the Year. She motivates hairdressers with practical, applicable and engaging content via Katy Reeve Education that has seen her be heralded in education awards.
Carolyn is renowned locally and abroad for her editorial and commercial hair looks, with her work featured across Vogue magazine, at the Cannes Film Festival and beyond. She’s taken home titles such as AHFA Hair Shot of the Year and AHIA Independent Stylist of the Year and is the innovator behind Quarry Avenue, a Sydney salon the fuses art, hair and fashion.
Andrew is the current AHIA New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year, winning acclaim for the structure, movement and technical innovation in his hair work. He has been featured across mediums and events such as New York Fashion Week, where his penchant for individual style, effortless movement, precision cuts, organic texture and creative sensibilities have made him a global standout.
Mikelah-Jayde is an expert in balayage, dimensional, customised colour and transformation who is known for statement hues, seamless blends and lived-in blondes over her 16 years of experience. With accolades such as the Hot Shots title and a F.A.M.E Team finalist nod, Mikelah helms the Mikelah Jayde Studio salon in Perth and is skilled in education, skill development and content creation as well.
