It may be for different acting roles, but usually long-locked actresses having been cutting, cropping and shaving their hair in 2017, making short hair the primary haircutting trend of the first half of the year. One of the most extreme examples was Cara Delevingne, who cut and eventually shaved off her long hair for a movie role. Following in her footsteps is Kate Hudson, who shaved off her famously long, blonde hair this week for a movie role.

Kate’s posted the look to her 7.6 million Instagram followers, indicating that the change is for a project with singer/wig maven Sia, and while it may be for a role, reactions on social media have praised the look.

Kate has been a fairly consistent long-locked, beach blonde throughout her career, experimenting with strawberry tones in the early 2000s and opting for the bob most recently in 2016. She went a cool shade of ice blonde at this year’s Met Gala, following Cara’s similar transition from platinum to the buzz cut.

Other stars who have gone to short hair or a completely shaved head this year include Katy Perry and Kristen Stewart – and with everyday consumers and clients lauding the changes on social media, the short look has cemented itself as one of the trends of the moment.
