Lee Matthews took to Australian Fashion Week (AFW) 2025 and KEVIN.MURPHY, as well as the actual Kevin Murphy, were on hand backstage to lend their products, talents and insights.
“LEE MATHEWS is a brand that always holds an understated refinement. This also aligns with the natural aesthetic of our brand,” Kevin explained. “Lee’s brief was all about capturing a sense of effortless, understated beauty – a reflection of the natural world and the strength in simplicity. That inspired us to create hair that feels organic, lived-in, and true to each model’s natural texture.”

“The hair was understated yet refined with a creamy texture,” he added. “The overall idea of the look is celebrating the individual texture of each person that is effortless, natural, and a bit undone. I like that Lee recognises that each individual holds a unique appeal, pulled together to create a celebration of the model and the singular fashion they showcase.”

Diverse materials in the collection, including cotton, linen, denim, canvas, tweed, wool, and silk, served to uniquely embody the essence of Australia, and the hair looks evoked this sense of diversity as well. The brands align on their Australian heritage and in a shared aesthetic, ensuring an ideal partnership.
KEVIN.MURPHY products such as BODY.MASS, SMOOTH.AGAIN and STAYING.ALIVE were key in creating the look. An effortless 70s vibe with some modern minimalism allowed the aesthetic to feel timeless, natural, fresh and contemporary as major inspiration points for the hair team. The power of individuality, natural texture and self-expression were also key factors.

“I just love being part of the picture and contributing to the overall success of the show, I’m grateful that the hair can be part of that. I love being part of a team that is bigger than the sum of its parts,” Kevin shared. “Fashion is in our DNA. Being part of events like Australian Fashion Week allows us to push creative boundaries, connect with the industry, and set trends that inspire both stylists and clients globally.”
