In his eleventh year as Hair Director at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, Kevin Murphy opened the show in sublime fashion, creating a modern take on a French Baroque inspired pony tail for the Shop-Hop runway on August 29th. Accompanied by his KEVIN.MURPHY Session.Stylists team, Murphy encapsulated the feminine, floral aura of the show in his own editorial way, starting the highly anticipated week off with a bang.
The styling added to designs by big-name brands such as Bianca Spender, Dion Lee, Manning Cartell and Sass & Bide. On a runway that was decorated with bouquets of vibrant pink and purple floral arrangements, the feeling of spring was in the air.
The designs continued this soft, feminine feel, in a colour palette brimming with pinks, purples, reds, whites and pastel shades, classically feminine silhouettes such as big skirts and maxi dresses and girlish textures such as lace and satin. A clean design aesthetic comprised of some sharp shapes, textured leather and chic female suit styles gave the show a modern edge. The models wore corsages and floral decorations to continue the spring theme and bring in the season in full. Dewy skin and soft, natural makeup made for the perfect beauty finish.
The hairstyle was a unique fashion statement that still fitted in seamlessly with the array of designs. Referencing Baroque hair aesthetics, the hair managed to look effortlessly feminine and forecast this season’s upcoming trends. It was created using hero products KEVIN.MURPHY SHIMMER.SHINE, ANTI.GRAVITY and SUPER.GOO.
“The inspiration for tonight’s show was the French Baroque period. I was inspired looking at pictures from that time, where the exposure of a woman’s neck and shoulder was such a beautiful, sensual way to frame the face,” said Murphy. “We made it modern by making the style less ornate and used a metallic barrette in the back of the hair so it looked like a wavy pony tail.”
With a beautiful and distinct look to open Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, Murphy brought both the fashion event and the season of spring into full bloom.
How to get the look:

STEP 3: Using a medium size hot tong take one inch sections, rolling the hair back from the face with a centre part
STEP 4: Stretch out each wave, pulling it back gently to join the ponytail ensuring to keep the ‘S’ bend through the sides
