Kinky Curly Straight Styles Sports Editorial

Hair met sport met fashion in the 12 Sports Stars of Christmas annual photo shoot, and for the third year in a row Kinky Curly Straight was the styling team behind it.

The shoot is the product of the Adelaide Advertiser and brainchild of the publication’s Sports Photographer Sarah Reed, who lensed the shoot. Sarah found the holiday season the ideal excuse to take athletes out of their comfort zone, swapping shorts for tuxedos and gowns – and of course, perfectly groomed hair.

This year the shoot was set in the historic Adelaide Railway Museum, and the styling was fittingly influenced by a vintage 1940s aesthetic. Kinky Curly Straight’s Laura De Candia led an artistic team consisting of Natalie Orlando, Molly Johns, and Morgan Phillips, as well as Mikayla Holt and Kate Hatzilias from fellow Adelaide Matrix salons.

The team styled water waves, pin curls and pin up styles for the women, whilst the men sported sleek, shiny styles, allowing the vintage theme to come alive. Brands used were Matrix and KEVIN.MURPHY, with hero products ranging from holding mousse to shine spray and KEVIN.MURPHY waxes and pastes for the men.

“We were thrilled to once again work with Sarah from the Advertiser on this shoot. It’s always a great day and this year with the Railway Museum as the backdrop, it was even more fabulous,” says Kinky Curly Straight Owner, Mojca Mikic. “To be asked back for the third consecutive year is fantastic and it’s so much fun working with some of South Australia’s top athletes and taking them out of their comfort zone.”

Big name athletes included AFL stars Taylor Walker and Hamish Hartlett, hockey player Georgie Parker, marathon runner Jessica Trengrove, rower Olympia Aldersey, cyclist Rohan Dennis and many others ranging across basketball, diving, soccer and more.

Stepping off the field and into a suave 1940s aesthetic, Kinky Curly Straight made sure these Adelaidian sports stars felt as at home in front of the camera as they do on the track. No wonder they scored their very own hat trick as the shoot’s styling partner.
