Four days of pure hair colour education, described as a total hair colour boot camp, could only mean the second year of the annual La Biosthetique Colour Expert Workshop. Six colourists were chosen for the exclusive event, which spanned colour science, fashion tips and more in an intensive four-day experience.
The first day was dedicated to the students themselves, kicking off at the La Biosthetique Academie and communicating with each student why they were chosen to be a Colour Expert. Next, a colour theory class led by master colourist and educator Alexander Fuchs covered hair pigment theory and colour processes for an informative start to the program.
On day two, students were tasked with learning true colour chemistry from biochemist Graeme Haley, which included learning the chemistry of hair, product ingredients and micro-pigment information, where students delved into why the brand’s colour formulas are so advanced. A workshop on colour correction followed, allowing students to diagnose major colour correction, deal with difficult colour scenarios and solve these problems with a strong array of colour application techniques.
Day three was a fashion-centric day, starting with a trend forecast over breakfast with fashion stylist Lydia Jane Saunders. Lydia expressed the fashion trends of the moment (think clashing patterns, power suits and plastic coats) that will always translate when in the realm of hair fashion. The afternoon saw them return to practical colour education, in a creative colouring masterclass led by Brett Albury, a colour ambassador for the brand. Students learned to develop their own creative processes, from concepting to colour execution. What better way to end the day than with dinner and drinks at Fratelli Fresh in Alexandria? Talk about a day dedicated to the VIP experience of the high fashion world.
On the final day, the students previewed the colour trends of 2018, led by Alexander, as a forecast of what’s sure to be prevalent in salon in the coming months. To finish, students took an exam and celebrated with graduation drinks.
“This was our second time running the Colour Expert program and it is definitely the most challenging and exciting workshop we offer at La Biosthétique,” Alexander shared. “We had a great time taking the students through the program this year, it is always so much fun and great to see how the experts push their boundaries on both a technical and creative level. My personal favourite part is hearing from the amazing guest artists like Brett Albury and Lydia Jane Saunders, and of course putting on the LAB coats and going behind the scenes of hair colouring with a chemist lecture!”
Innovation, education and artistry continue to be prevalent in the colour sphere – and with that, the future of colour is in expert hands.
