Keeping things ever versatile for their partnership with Telstra Perth Fashion Festival, L’Oréal Professionnel teamed up with Showpony Hair Extensions to create big, retro hairstyles, intricate braids, elegant chignons and even include fun pops of colour on the runway.

There were highlights aplenty, but the Sebastian Gunwan show acted as a particular highlight, with a Dutch braid and detailed fascinator evoking the sense of a day at the races. “I love Showpony because the hair provides solutions when dealing with layers, hair being too fine and adding length,” Hair Director Brad Ngata said of creating the look. “In this application we were able to get the Dutch braid consistent across the 30 models. We simply glued a weft around each ponytail to thicken and then twisted the added weft into the twisted mohawk.”

The look for the Myer Fashion Lunch, led by Kerina Marlow, also stood out, with a soft and feminine braided chignon that had a natural haphazardness, exuding effortless glamour. Showpony Hair Extensions not only added volume and created a consistent width, it also added dimension to the colourisation of the hair. For some models it was used as faux chignon entirely.

The styling for Camilla, by Hair Directors Jessie Twamly & Ailsa Manson of Maurice Meade, utilised coloured tape extensions for hidden colour accents of muted pastels and finished with feathers to highlight a sleek, straight long hair style. “We used coloured Showpony tape hair extensions to accent the overall hair colour concept which was created with L’Oreal Professionnel Hair Chalk in a multitude of colours and customized creative formulae,” they said. “The hair was divided by a central cornrow with the overall effect of long, carefree and interesting, subtle colouring.”

There was no shortage of inspiration amongst the other runway shows. An unusual dropped plait for the Future Runway contrasted a classic chignon with creative top braid for Michael Cinco, which in turn contrasted a natural, 70s inspired style for A’LKEMI. The possibilities were endless thanks to the creativity of L’Oréal Professionnel and the capabilities of Showpony Hair Extensions.
