Fairy floss textures and wisps of bright colour (think yellow, purple and mint green) brought the candy vibe to Yousef Akbar, courtesy of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia Hair Partner Redken and Hair Director Philip Barwick. Portraying a tragic figure that could be taken straight out of an old romance novel, the Yousef Akbar girl had her head in the clouds… literally, writes Adolfo Lopez-Serrano.
“We wanted to push the limits of belief and create a look that showed heartbroken characters with a sweet delusion that was poetic and romantic” Philip said. As such, a messy, cob web-style look, with volume and soft texture, stole the show, while smudged and bold lipstick complemented the hair perfectly. The hair team amplified this cinematic texture with with Pillow Proof Two Day Extender Dry Shampoo and set it with Triple Take 32 Extreme High-Hold Hairspray.
The hair and beauty suited a fashion show that was focused on more than just the garments, set on creating a fantasy and a narrative that puts emotion at the forefront. Yousef Akbar drew his inspiration from history and a fascination of the relationship between clothes and body, seeking to create true works of art.
Redken’s Avant Garde, architectural hair design, which evoked soft, inviting shapes, fluffy clouds and splashes of candy colour, brought the fantasy to life. Attendees were spotted practically floating out of the runway show.
