Melbourne salons are eagerly preparing to open as the date for the 70 per cent double dose vaccination rate has been confirmed as Friday October 22, meaning lockdown ends this Friday!
The official date was announced over the weekend, ensuring hair salons can open for a maximum of five fully vaccinated clients and under the four square metre rule. Masks are still required indoors and all staff, along with clients, must be fully vaccinated. Continued contact tracing protocols are also essential.
Changes in the roadmap were made that will also see indoor gatherings allowed and greater allowances to hospitality as well, making Friday something of Melbourne’s own Freedom Day.
In areas of regional Victoria that are not in lockdown, salons are currently open with up to ten people on the premises. At the 80 per cent vaccination rate, rules for Melbourne and regional Victoria will converge and hair salons everywhere will be able open to fully vaccinated patrons indoors with a cap of 150 clients and under the four square metre rule. Masks will still be required indoors. This date is predicted for early November.
Melburnians have experienced the longest cumulative lockdown globally, and our thoughts have been with these salons through the difficulties of the pandemic. We can’t wait for salons to open city-wide and to see clients lining up around the block to reunite with hairdressers as another lockdown ends.
