The hair, beauty and fashion of film were duly recognised at the inaugural Australian Film Fashion Awards (AFFA), with Australia’s film and fashion glitterati turning up in droves to the dynamic new event. The awards were held on May 20th at the Westfield Sky Lounge, in front of an exclusive invite-only audience.

Renya Xydis was awarded for her ingenuity in styling the Phoenix Rising shoot in Russh Magazine, taking out the award for Best Hair and Makeup (Hair). Best makeup went to Tamah Krinsky for the same shoot, which also won People’s Choice.

“Six months ago, the concept to recognise the amazing talent in the Australian Fashion Film industry was just a dream. Today it was a reality,” enthused AFFA Founder Anastasia Fai. “Celebrating the achievements of everyone involved in creating Australian Fashion Films was long overdue. The support tonight’s event received is a sure sign that AFFA will be celebrating Aussie talent for many years to come.”

With eleven awards in total, the evening also honoured Baz Luhrman as Best Director, and Justin Griffiths, for the film Wild West, for Best Independent Fashion Film.
High profile guests included designers from We Are Handsome and Alice McCall, models Didier Cohen, Sarah Ellen and the Stenmark Twins and a varied and high calibre list of actors and directors.
Who can resist a local event worthy of Hollywood, especially when it gives the hair industry its due recognition? Congratulations to all the winners.
