In Awe Salon has debuted in Adelaide, built from salon owner Megan Panozzo’s passion for creative colour to become the design personification of colour, texture and artistry.
The salon has operated since 2012, and has always been renowned for its vivid and bright persona. The updated premises have elevated this seven salon chair space, building a bigger size bursting with pastel and bright colour palettes and paired with original tiling and materials, while maintaining the In Awe DNA that puts clients first and ensures they feel completely at home.
“It’s amazing welcoming our clients in for the first time and seeing them in awe, in ‘In Awe’! I always had a vision of creating a space that felt like a dream when you walked in, and my vision for the new salon was Mid Century…just as the acid kicked in,” Megan said. “I wanted to create a space that was still a colour speciality salon with a uniquely modern interior – something that was different to anything else being created at the moment, that felt high end with a twist.”
The design aesthetic was described as ‘retro with a twist’, as inspired by a hot pink acrylic table found on Pinterest and created in conjunction with interior designer Aislinn Morris.
Feature pieces include bright blue Maletti basin chairs from Space Salon Furniture, and chairs from Joiken, as well as a hot pink vinyl splashback, floor sticker and kick boards for the walls and wavy lines decorations, all by Signarama in Melrose Park. Tiling by Travis Lamb from Lamb Bathrooms and painting creations by Ben Cunningham of Waterpark Decorators also elevated the space, with hand painted pink and green blocks above the mirrors and detailed artwork offering another artistic, personalised touch. The salon was created to offer a unique design and with it a unique client experience.
“We don’t have a dedicated retail shelf. We have a display table where we create a merchandising space, allowing us to talk about home haircare and retail before we start the service,” Megan said. “I also made the choice to abandon the traditional idea of a reception desk. I am fully connected to my clients throughout their visits; we share so much and I follow a really heart-led experience for them. We ask our clients to stay in their chair at the end of their visit and use our iPads and check them out with the Timely app.”
“I want to be the Uber of hairdressing,” Megan continued. “Once all of my clients are using the new payment feature in Timely they can walk out the door without even having to have money change hands.”
The space has been built and now launched through the pandemic, speaking to Megan’s fortitude and the salon’s clear power as it trailblazers through a challenging year, emerging with its clear identity, creativity and innovations.
“It’s been such a blessing that we now have all this space to grow the team and still provide a space for clients to feel safe, in the wake of COVID,” Megan said. “Finishing the salon has been something for myself and my team to really look forward to, and I have cherished my team and their love and ownership of the space. It’s definitely been a great moral booster in 2020!
