Who’s still recovering from the big couple of days that closed the end of last week? Last Thursday was Star Wars Day (May the 4th Be With You) and last Friday was Starlight Day, and while the former is clearly just a playful take on the date, the latter is a very important, nation-wide endeavour to improve the lives of sick kids through the inimitable Starlight Foundation. As you’re probably aware, Salon Select and the Australian Hairdressing Council (AHC) were all there for it.
The Salon Select for Starlight program hosted a Pop Up Salon in Martin Place and encouraged hairdressers to turn up to work in their pyjamas. Throughout the month, the group is asking hairdressers to request a $1 donation from clients after every appointment (especially if hairdressers are working all day in their sleepwear). With this initiative, running through the month Of May, the group is hoping to beat their previous (but impressive) efforts over the past two years and raise $100,000.
Stylists are still encouraged to wear pyjamas to work in order to raise donations (no, not every day in May, why not make it a Saturday or a weekend thing to drive momentum?) and partaking salons have listed additional donations, a sense of team achievement and, of course, increased comfort as the benefits.
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – it’s not too late to get on board!
