It was unfamiliar territory for some W-League soccer stars (as well as the partners of notable A-league superstars) as the soccer field and stands were swapped for the red carpet last week at the Dolan Warren Awards, honouring the very best in the soccer sphere. Luckily Schwarzkopf Professional was in the styling suite backstage, ensuring the women (and some of the men) felt their best and creating the hair looks for the main awards event.

Hair by PhD in Parramatta conducted the hair styling all day on behalf of Schwarzkopf Professional and alongside INGLOT makeup artists and famous fashion stylist Donny Galella.

Primary fashion trends such as velvet, metallic and neoprene fabrics (“neoprene is important for a sports luxe vibe, for the girls that are athletic and sporty and not used to wearing a gown, they love that their dress is made from neoprene and they’re comfortable,” Donny shared) dominated the carpet, while winged eyeliner, blown out smokey eye looks, sparkling dust and false lashes remained dominant makeup trends.

Ultimately, the hair, fashion and makeup teams were led by each woman’s individual styles and tastes, creating a dynamic energy backstage, but tried and tested runway looks still anchored the day’s overall aesthetic.

“We’re inspired by the current fashion that is happening at the moment, which is elegant, timeless and soft,” said Louise Akle of Hair by PhD, who credited the Schwarzkopf Professional OSiS+ powders, light hair sprays and natural shine products as hero tools. “A lot of what we’re seeing at the Oscars and with Red Carpet fashion, everything is very soft, romantic and classic at the moment, not very slick.”

Kicking goals, in every sense of the word.
