Ten regional stylists have won an enviable prize in the Star Spot Opportunity competition – each gaining the industry experience of a lifetime. The winners will be divided up to shadow, work with and learn from a handful of industry icons at photo shoots, events and runway shows.
The ten winners were chosen via eight regional hairdressing Star Spot Opportunities in a competition available to country hairdressers in Australia and New Zealand, and two Random Start Spot places for stylists overseas.
“We have had 10 successful recipients over the past three years who have had collections published worldwide, gained their first session experiences, or developed new skills and made amazing contacts in the process,” said Leanne Cutler of Hair Shots 2 The World, which hosts the competition. “Mentorships with the industry’s best have proved to be a catalyst in boosting confidence and careers.”
Naomie Bryers-Shelley from The Unique Strand for Hair and Beauty will shadow session stylist and trichologist Simone Lee at a photo shoot or event, while Caitlin Hibberd from Tonic Hair will work with long hair expert Lorna Evans at an event. Caren Mackey from Do Hair will spend the day with AHFA South Australian Hairdresser of the Year Kristy Hodgson, in salon or backstage.
Kobi Bokshish of Intershape Hairstylists will host three of the winners in dynamic individual settings. Kristie Hedington from Bellus Studio will partake in a photo shoot, Carolyn Gahan originally from Renfrew, Canada will follow him at Hair Expo and Bevan Cremer from Streamline Hair Design will experience the frenetic energy of a backstage event.
Carole Haddad will have four stylists assisting her at the Natural Fibre Parades at the Brisbane Ekka. Chloe Schlaufer of LC Hair, Kelly Reeves from DNA Hairdressing, Carolyn Gahan visiting from Renfrew, Canada and Jacky Quon from Smitten Hairdressing will take part in the fashion-forward event.
By all accounts, the prize will be a launching pad for the emerging talents, providing the opportunity to experience new facets of the industry, network and grow their skills. Good luck to the winners as they take that first step.
