Sydney TAFE Head Teacher of Hairdressing Wins 2016 Australian VET/Trainer of the Year

That intrinsic connection between hairdressing and education has once again been highlighted with the Head Teacher of Hairdressing at Sydney TAFE winning the award for 2016 Australian VET/Trainer of the Year. Donna Colombini has been awarded for her considerable achievements in the Vocational Education and Training sector at a ceremony held in Darwin.


“I have a strong commitment to the industry and this is reflected through my teaching, leadership of a teaching team and the students we teach. It is of the utmost importance that my teaching section gives the best possible education and training through quality teaching and learning practices,” Donna shared. “I really believe that education changes lives.”

The awards ceremony brought together a myriad of apprentices, vocational students, training practitioners, registered training organisations, secondary school and industry figures, recognising those who elevate the education industry. Donna’s 36-year experience in the education and hairdressing industries was highlighted, as was her leadership talents, industry ties and commitment to innovative education in hair and beauty.

Donna’s unique education practices include travel opportunities – she recently took students on a study tour to Italy to visit the country’s best salons and learn from their skills, as well as well as bringing her students to international Cosmoprof events. Donna also implemented an app-based workplace assessment models for various beauty courses and has organised big-name industry presenters at Sydney TAFE, including sessions by Emiliano Vitale, Sharon Blain, Caterina Di Biase, Jules Tognini and more.
