There was a lot going on at this week’s 2025 Grammy Awards and our eyes were squarely on the hair trends. Across the headlines one unexpected word has taken your clients’ feed by storm – jellyfish.
The Jellyfish hair trend was officially cemented at the Grammys, with two big stars – Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga – debuting transformational cuts that showcased this layered style, while Billie Eilish also showed off the look after debuting it last week. Think short front pieces, harnessing the fringe phenomenon that’s also taking over trends, and separated shorter and longer layers, that take these ideas to their most extreme. With concepts akin to a mullet and two different sections, much like its titular jellyfish, it’s certainly an Avant Garde take on a hair cut.
“The Jellyfish haircut has been a big trend this season,” shared Dyson Global Styling Ambassador, Dylan Bradshaw. “It started on the catwalk last year, but now it’s really making its way into the mainstream. It’s a great way for people with long hair to use layering techniques and subtle tweaks to create different face shapes. The key is adjusting the angle – some versions are straight, others hit at the jawline, and some, like Lady Gaga’s, are more cheekbone-focused to soften the shape.”
In terms of styling, Dylan advocates for the diversity of the cut, which can be worn with shaggy texture or sleek and straight, with the layers along the cheekbone or jawline enhanced to showcase the extreme sections.
The Jellyfish haircut itself may be a little audacious for your salon clients, but its concepts of layers and sections can be used in subtler ways while still allowing them to feel on trend. For your braver clients – just keep swimming.
