Last year, the Australian Hairdressing Council (AHC) raised $94,000 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation in the incomparable Salon Select Smiles for Starlight Campaign that runs through May. While many might be complacent in that result, the AHC is pushing the goal post even further, building on the thousands they have raised in the past two years, and aiming for $100,000 this year. The organisation is once again uniting the salon industry, and bringing smiles to seriously ill children – something every hairdresser can (and should) work towards.
To get involved, simply ask each client to add $1 to their bill as a donation to the Starlight Children’s Foundation throughout May. Salons will receive material to assist with receiving donations and implementing the campaign in salon. While fundraising happens throughout May, May 5 is Starlight Day, where a national pyjama day will be hosted at salons around the country. All stylists are encouraged to show up to work in their pyjamas to spread awareness of the cause (also it’s so much comfier).
The AHC has a history with supporting Starlight beyond just May. The group created nation-wide Pop UP salons in January, offering pampering, beauty makeovers, colour, glitter and the confidence that comes with it to sick kids and their families, shaking up their daily routines for the better. They’ll also put a Pop Up Salon right in the middle of Martin Place on Starlight Day this year!
We can see no reason not to get in touch and involved in this great cause.
