A noted hairdresser from Adelaide has expanded his prestige even beyond Australia, with Uros Mikic of Kinky Curly Straight, also renowned as the Matrix Australia Design Team Creative Director, winning in a big way at the Canadian Contessa Awards. The talented hairdresser took home the title of International Hairstylist of the Year, in its first year as a category. A select group of global artists were invited to enter, and coming out on top marked something of a career highlight for Uros.

“It’s truly an honour to receive this award from my international peers,” Uros shared. “recognising talent across the industry is so important, and being able to share skills and artistry on this scale has been so rewarding.”

Uros was awarded for his prestigious Cassiopeia collection, which was previously nominated for the title of Hairdresser of the Year at this year’s Hair Expo. The collection, with hair by Uros, colour by Matt Clements, photography by Andrew O’Toole, Makeup by Kylie O’Toole and styling by Elaine Marshall, was inspired by enthralling constellations. Shape, colour and texture is utilised to recreate space nebulas and celestial-inspired patterns, with strong cuts, soft waves and elaborate shapes outside the bounds of gravity. Pastel pinks and subtle greys dominate the collection (punctuated by the odd bold yellow), becoming your space-like editorial dream. You can see the whole collection below.

Dedicated to the Canadian hairdressing industry, the Contessa Awards reward Canadian hairdressers for their proficiency in colour, session styling, Avant Garde, texture and more – well done to Uros for breaking into this sphere as the lone international winner and representative.
