Industry veteran James (Jimmy) Sankowsky has passed away on July 23 2021, after a long and storied career in the hair industry, which he was a part of for more than 52 years.
In his extensive career in hairdressing Jimmy began as an apprenticeship at Jacaranda Salon in Bundaberg and built his career empire, eventually establishing his salon ‘Mr. James’ in Beatrice Terrace in Ascot, Brisbane, and employing and training many young hairdressers.
Jimmy’s industry influence was widespread and he was involved with projects and organisations across the hairdressing industry including the PHA (Professional Hairdressers Association) now known as HABA (Hair and Beauty Australia), as well as the IHS (International Hairdressers Society).
He was both a competitor and judge across national and international competitions including Intercoiffure and World Supremes, and was a member of the Australian World Cup Team. He was also a multi-award winning IHS Australian Hairdresser of the Year title-holder.
“HABA, along with the industry, will miss his expertise and passion for hair. Our sincere condolences to the family, may you rest in peace Jimmy,” said a statement from The President & HABA Board of Directors.
We at INSTYLE have Jimmy’s loved ones and colleagues in our thoughts at this devastating time and pay tribute to a life and career spent propelling the hair industry forward.
Vale James Sankowsky.
