Head into outer space with inspirational session artist Antoinette Beenders, Aveda’s Senior Vice President of Global Professional Artistry, who has revealed the Astral 2.0 collection. With clear planetary allusions and extra-terrestrial themes, imagery and shapes, Antoinette describes the collection as drawing inspiration from “the enigmatic realm of out-of-body experiences”.
“With Astral 2.0, I wanted to push the boundaries of what’s possible in hair artistry,” Antoinette shared. “This collection is all about exploring uncharted territory—playing with textures, dimensions, and forms that feel both futuristic and deeply expressive. It’s about breaking free from convention and creating something truly otherworldly.”
The collection extends Antoinette’s previous Astral collection, which was recently nominated for the British Hairdressing Awards in the title of International Collection of the Year. With Astral, Antoinette was also nominated in platforms such as the International Hairdressing Awards, for the title of International Hairdresser of the Year, and at the AIPP Awards, across two categories of Digital and Avant Garde.
The futuristic collection employs AI-generated imagery for the collection details outside of the models’ face and hair, collaborating with multidisciplinary artist Ed Maximus in achieving these technological feats, as photographer and AI artist for the collection.
The collection develops Antoinette’s renowned prior work, building on the ridge technique she initially developed for the Iris Van Herpen couture fashion show, which she also recently used at New York Fashion Week in a celestial-inspired look for Bad Binch TongTong. Creative details taken from the contours and fluidity rounded architecture create an emphasis on the idea of three-dimensional hair.
With a hair concept by Antoinette, supported by Kenneth Dawson, photography and AI artwork by Ed, makeup by Ai Yokomizo and production by Jane Galpin, lift off with Astral 2.0.
