Late last year, the 2020 British Hairdressing Awards took place in a virtual format that wowed global audiences, and the talented Sally Brooks of Brooks & Brooks was crowned the pinnacle title of British Hairdresser of the Year for the third time, winning for her WTF collection, which we can now present to you in full here.
“I’m so shocked. We’ve just proved as an industry how resilient we are. I don’t think this award should have my name on it, it should have hairdressers everywhere on it – Hairdressers United,” Sally said on the night. “Thank you to my photographer friend Jenny Hands and to my team who are so supportive. A massive thank you to Jamie Brooks for supporting my ideas. We’re all really good friends, and everyone pulled it out of the bag this year.”
The WTF collection is unique to 2020, honouring elements of social distancing measures and savvy spending by photographing mannequins, adorned with hair looks that inspire in their diverse and skilful shapes, styles, hues, textures and intricate techniques. Fashion styling of the mannequins with bold patterns and fabrics, and making use of artful light and shadow, elevates this unique collection even further.
“I have always wanted to shoot a collection with these beautiful swan neck mannequins and 2020 seemed like the perfect year to do this,” Sally shared. “With so much of our beautiful industry struggling this year, my 2020/WTF collection is made with a limited budget and a belief that if we think outside the box, then anything is possible!”
“A huge congratulations to Sally – she’s done it again! This win is a phenomenal achievement particularly after the difficulties faced by the industry this year. Standing out amongst industry legends, Sally’s hair work demonstrated unrivalled vision, skill and creativity, gaining her recognition once again as the best in the business and a great ambassador for our industry,” said Jayne Lewis-Orr, Executive Director of HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards.
