When it comes to showcasing the extraordinary potential emerging hairdressers have, rising star awards capture the raw talent, education and technical skills that can inspire from our up and coming industry stylists. This was evident in the British Hairdressing Awards (BHA) 2020 winner of Newcomer of the Year, Kate Drury, who won for her Allure collection.
“I wanted to create images that not only demonstrate my skills but also captivate the viewer,” Kate said. “I have created styles that are soft and luxurious to illustrate how hair can enhance a clients’ natural beauty.”
With a distinct editorial quality and commercial appeal, this simple collection of four images, all set in black and white, has a supreme focus on cut, style and technique. Kate shows off a varied collection consisting of a modern buzz cut hero style, contrasting layers, clashing textures in a long hair woven look, volume and movement on diverse hair lengths and with a multitude of styles within the four images.
By stripping colour back and pushing technique to the forefront, Kate’s winning collection provides a lesson to all newcomers on the significance of educational foundations, commercial accessibility and the ability to think outside the box.
