The Australian winner of the American Crew All Star Challenge was announced at an intimate ceremony at the Ozdare Academy in Melbourne on Sunday night. Aaron Chan from King’s Domain Victoria took out the title, winning an all-expense paid trip to Rome to represent Australia at the Global Championship in April.
Aaron won against 16 other esteemed finalists from around the country, with an editorially strong short haircut. Judging was conducted by a panel consisting of American Crew All Star and Education Manager Phoenix Thomson and American Crew All Stars Chris Dunkley, Gary McKenzie and Lino D’Adderio.
The event was centred on the rising male grooming trend. Opening with an all-male runway show, guests sipped drinks and enjoyed canapés as they watched the latest in male fashion by designers walk down the runway.
The latest suits, sports jackets and winter wear with a strong colour palette of greys, blues and reds showed off male styling at its most dapper, complemented by chic on-trend male haircuts.
An address was given by Jimmy Niggles, the face of the most recent American Crew campaign and creator of the charity Beard Season, which encourages men to grow facial hair in order to promote regular skin checks and raise awareness of melanoma. Members of the current American Crew All Star Team, as well as the General Manager for American Crew Australia, Matthew Kilty, took to the stage to award all 17 finalists, before Jimmy announced the winner.
With the competition now in its 11th year, the prestige of the American Crew All Star Challenge is at an all-time high. Good luck to Aaron as he flies the Aussie flag in Rome.
