Believing that your face is the ultimate canvas, Styleicons spends five minutes with blogger Tammi Ireland of Coveted Canvas.
Tammi Ireland of Coveted Canvas
What is your blog called? How did you come up with the name?
Coveted Canvas was so named due to my penchant for alliteration and the belief that once you take care of your skin, hair and makeup – your ‘canvas’ – the clothes and accessories you put on top of that is icing on the cake.
When did you start blogging?
March 2010, when freelancing in a period between graduating from university with a degree in Journalism and finding full-time work. It was my outlet to write about a topic that interested me, in new media, that wasn’t covered much elsewhere in WA.
What is your blog about, why did you choose to blog about that topic?
I chose to focus Coveted Canvas predominantly on beauty as I’d continually be asking questions about the topic, and in turn get asked ‘how to’ questions from my friends. As a ‘teen model’, if you like, I always asked makeup artists backstage at modeling shows or fashion shoots I attended what techniques they were using and why. It’s just a constant fascination on the way a slick of makeup or new hair-do can change the way a woman feels about herself.
Do you blog full-time or part time?
Part-time. Professionally, I work full-time at a community newspaper, while freelancing for various websites and print publications in the country.
What is the best thing about blogging?
The freedom to express your own style and thoughts, and the immediacy.
What have you been involved in recently?
My work with Coveted Canvas has helped me get several freelance positions in various magazines and other beauty websites.
What is the best tip you have learned since blogging?
Not to be afraid of lip colour, and that makeup and hair styles are temporary, so have fun with them!
Any last words?
Make sure you’re trying new shades or styles for you. Your confidence will shine through, and that’s the most attractive canvas anybody could have.
