Kevin Murphy returned to his home-town to celebrate Melbourne fashion and style as Hair Director of the 2012 Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, from 3 to 9 September 2012.
Kevin Murphy for MSFW
His ninth year as Hair Director, Murphy was supported by his esteemed team of KEVIN.MURPHY Session.Stylists who crafted unique, fashion-forward looks for the MSFW Designer Series and Emerging Designer Series Runway Shows – complementing the latest fashions from Australia’s leading and upcoming designers.
MSFW Designer Series Runway 1
Celebrating exquisite design, Designer Series Runway 1 featured collections from some of Australia’s most revered designers including: Aurelio Costarella, Christine, Ellery, Gwendolynne, Lui Hon, Maticevski, Michael Lo Sordo and Scanlan & Theodore.
“I’ve taken inspiration from the Japanese Edo period, a time of clean lines and strict social order. This era was pre-kabuki and very much about the women of the time and their domestic everyday lives,” explained Murphy.
“We’ve created two looks for the show, one up and one down, but they both reflect this Japanese simplicity.”
The look was achieved by creating a mowhawk shape on the top of the head then back combing followed by smoothing to show the two directions in the hair, using products BODY.BUILDER, SESSION.SPRAY and TEXTURE.MASTER.
MSFW Designer Series Runway 2
Inspired design graced the catwalk, featuring fresh seasonal directions to tantalise fashion tastebuds. Designers include: Above., Alice Euphemia, Arthur Galan AG, Carly Hunter, Jayson Brunsdon, LifeWithBird, Manning Cartell, Thurley and YB J’Aime.
“This show has a sporty feel to it and again we have taken influence from Japan and blended it with a clean modern look,” says Murphy. “The hair is folded and sewn in like an Obe.”
To achieve the look, the hair was teased on top for added height and pulled back into a pony tail. The pony is then folded and sewn just like an Obe. Products used were BODY.BUILDER, TEXTURE.MASTER and SEWING.KIT.
