NYFW: Redken for Marc by Marc Jacobs

The Marc by Marc Jacobs collection amped up the sex appeal with big hair and the silhouette of a 1940s screen siren thanks to Redken Creative Consultant Guido Palau.

Taking a step back from his usual low key aesthetic, Marc Jacobs embraced cinched in waists and feminine curves on the runway with Redken Global Styling Director Guido creating a big, beautiful head of curls for the Fall Winter 2013 Marc by Marc Jacobs show.

The stylised curls invoked an old Hollywood glamour, while the teased crown gave volume and a cheeky nod to Marc’s playful style. The imperfection of the curls gave a modern twist to a vintage look, perfectly holding their own next to the bold prints and gem-tones of the collection.

“The inspiration for this look was 1940-era woman – an uptown girl – but then we made it more fun, and thus more Marc by Marc. We didn’t want it to feel symmetrical or too perfect, so the back-brushing gives a teased effect; a little crazy,” Guido said.

Guido’s backstage hero products: guts 10 volume spray mousse and fashion work 12 versatile working spray.

NYFW: Redken for Marc by Marc Jacobs

The kids of 1982 walked down the runway of Marc by Marc Jacobs in clashing prints and funky 80s hair by Guido Palau, Redken 5th Avenue NYC Creative Consultant.

Dressed in a clashing colour palette of brights, the Marc girl is a bit boyish, adorns herself in mismatched prints, and sometimes like to rock a girly floral.

The collection introduced a plethora of prints, from fun skulls to bright geometrics amidst pretty tops and baggy pants – the collection a screaming child of the 80s.

The hair was just as loud as the prints using scarves as hair accessories with each model strutting down the catwalk in a turban-like up-do.

“We wrapped these bright fabrics around the head, and then pinned the hair up into a very messy chignon,” said Guido.

“It feels very young, light-hearted and nonchalant,” he said, “it’s a mix of inspiration from the 70s and 80s and almost has a punky feel to it”.
