NYFW: Redken for Marc Jacobs

Redken Global Styling Director Guido Palau wrapped up Fall 2013 Fashion Week in New York with the highly anticipated Marc Jacobs show.

The Marc Jacobs collection – set in a seductively lit, sepia toned room – was overwhelmingly about texture. Fox fur, sequins, microplaid and mohair all featured alongside the colour palette, which was the secondary focus and included muted tones of grey and silver.

Guido and team cut and tailored wigs for all 55 models into a punky, rock n’ roll shape that both highlighted the boyish cuts and contrasted the rich, metallic, satin pieces that Jacobs sent down the runway.

“The inspiration tonight was taken from lots of different things! Namely a number of girls in the 1990’s, and also Edie Campbell – a British model who’s hair I recently cut short. It’s overall very Marc; very in line with the kind of “cool girl” he likes to envision,” said Guido.

“The look was sprayed with water and Redken’s shine flash 02 right before the girls walked to give it a wet-looking, shiny, even sweaty feel. It was at once grungy, raw, and real. I even cut each wig with a razor once the model had it on to fit it to her face for a spiky, punky, choppy end result.”

Guido’s backstage hero products: guts 10 volume spray mousse and shine flash 02 glistening mist.
