Beginning with a preview from James Cameron’s award-winning film Avatar, Camilla’s 2010 collection took on a Babylon theme of richness, bright colours and contrast.
Drawing inspiration from far away lands, Camilla’s collection took guests on a sensory journey into another world – a reality created by Hair Director Lance Blanchett for Joico.
“The Camilla show is all about a girl’s journey through a fantasy world so we wanted to create some theatre through clearly defined themes or moods with the hair,” said Lance.
Titled Pandora, Lost Islands, Lost Garden, Chimera, L’Etrange, and Atlantis, all four themes embodied a bright colour palette; hair was adorned with bright feathers then crimped and teased to create volume.
In one theme, hair was kept tight with a colourful headband while black bob wigs reminiscent of Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction, were used to create a distinct variation on the previous moods.
Slicked futuristic hair with veils and headwear completed the show, no doubt making it one of the most theatrical of the week.
“With Camilla we really wanted to tell a story to all women through variations in hair from long to short and the use of accessories all while creating a story that suited both pastels and animal prints,” said Lance.
Lance used a cocktail of products from the Joico Design Collection including the Brilliantine Shine gloss, Joicomist shine spray and humidity block to prep the hair.
Transcending the limitations of resort wear, Camilla’s free-flowing kaftans and glamorous mini and maxi dresses, jumpsuits, playsuits, camisoles, peasant and oversizd skirts and leggings drew from a bold colour palette of pastel, electric and fluro-coloured silk as well as luscious tropical and rainforest prints.
