Lisa Ho’s Spring / Summer 2010 collection, held at the Art Gallery of NSW, saw models sashaying down the runway looking elegant and sophisticated – a look that was perfectly complemented by the hair direction.
Directed by Kenneth Stoddart for Redken, hair was slicked back and rolled into a large, elegant chignon.
“Strong and sculptural; a polished woman” describes Hair Director for Redken, Kenneth Stoddart. “Lisa [Ho] and I spoke about the look and we wanted a classic, elegant shape. The head shape needed to be more ‘compact’ than previous collections.”
The ‘flower pot chignon’ showcased an up do with minimalist elegance. The models demonstrated a certain richness with their hair wrapped up into a flower-pot chignon at the back, just under the crown – reminiscent of early century Parisiennes living a decadent lifestyle.
The collection featured hemlines that were noticeably longer; from knee length pencil skirts, to floor sweeping maxi dresses, some featuring contoured draping that clings beautifully to curves.
The colour palette was muted and soft – nude, tans, mushroom pinks, mossy greens, lilac khaki and white featured heavily – and the subtlety of colour was reflected in the makeup. Directed by Linda Jefferyes for MAC, makeup was pared back to perfection; all nude lips, dewy cheekbones and statement eyebrows.
The show was very much about letting the fashion speak for itself – as fresh and floaty as a spring day. The collection was effortlessly sophisticated – simultaneously polished, yet nonchalant.
“There’s a romantic sophistication to the collection,” said Lisa. “It’s harder edged, more modern, but always glamorous and relaxed. These are pieces for the woman who is always moving forward.”
To get the look:
1. Blow dry the hair with Redken Guts 10 to thicken and build in texture.
2. Pull hair back into a ponytail just below the crown and secure a false ponytail or
long hair weft to the top for a rich, full head of hair.
3. Wrap the ponytail smoothly into a conical or flower-pot shaped chignon and
secure with large French pins.
4. Finish with Redken Forceful 23 to hold the look into place.
