Adelaide salon Kinky Curly Straight has been named as a finalist in the Salon Design for Hair Expo Awards 2013, writes Jenni Dawes.

Kinky Curly Straight is committed to minimising its global footprint, and is currently the only salon in Adelaide to use the Refoil system, which creates foil from recycled sources and uses 95 per cent less energy than that required to produce traditional salon foil.

The salon was also the first in Adelaide to use Easydry towels, which minimise water wastage in addition to being 100 per cent recyclable and biodegradable.

Other environmentally responsible measures introduced by owners Uros and Mojca Mikic include a hydroelectricity system, temperature-controlled taps and the regular auditing and offsetting of carbon emissions.

“Our approach for Kinky Curly Straight has been something which means a lot to both of us personally, but we also hope to inspire other salons to incorporate similar strategies in their own salons. There is so much that can be done in Adelaide and beyond to minimise the effect our industry has on the environment,” says Mojca.
