Cool concrete, warm wood and spectacular parkland views make salon Ryder an Auckland must-do.
Ryder’s extensive parkland views
Well known as one of New Zealand’s busiest editorial stylists, Greg Murrell is no stranger to up and coming trends, and with salon Ryder this hair master sits clients in fashion’s front row.
Ryder occupies an original Jewish school building dating back to 1914 and, at over 2000 square feet, is airy and spacious – much like the magnificent foliage of Albert Park that occupies Ryder’s view.
Glowing basin area
Inspired by the geometric mixture of nature’s elements such as wood and concrete – common techniques of Italian architect Carlo Scarpa – Ryder’s design is simplistic and avoids the generic girly trappings of more traditional salon surroundings.
Designers Sue Hillery and Andrew Greenslade have created a minimalist interior that draws attention to the extensive park views. The colour scheme is carried out in a series of cool greys and is intermixed with custom designed features including art installations by Michael Parekowhai.
