Hair Expo is coming along in under two weeks, and we’re looking forward to so many things, from the education, to the floor and the stages. Chief among the event highlights is the expo’s annual GenNext Gala, taking place on the Sunday night, June 10, and this year sponsored by Matrix. A line-up of talented emerging hairdressing teams will present hair shows that run the gamut of dancing, performing, runway walks and, of course, Avant Garde, creative and inspiring hair.
The evening will be compered by the always entertaining Richard Reid and industry legend Jules Tognini, as they presents shows that stretch the boundaries of creativity in hair and literally provide a platform for the next gen(eration) of talented hairdressing superstars. The gala will showcase eight teams – Ibiza Hair, The M Collective, The Masters Institute of Creative Education Program Korean Artists, Project NZ, Revolution Hairdressing, Fellowship of British Hairdressing F.A.M.E. Team 2018 in Collaboration with BaByliss PRO, Box Hill TAFE and the Matrix Hot Team. There will also be a performance from the always inspiring Matrix Playground Team, consisting of Uros Mikic, Stevie English, Kobi Bokshish, Adam Ciaccia, Mat Johnson, and Paul Ricupito.
“I haven’t missed a Hair Expo in 17 years,” Adam shared. “I’m hoping that I can inspire other people the way that I was inspired. It always used to be something we’d get excited about in our salon… you get inspired by the youth because they’re raw and it’s not refined yet, and there’s something really beautiful about that. And then you get to see people who are more established where you can take that inspiration back to the salon.”
“GenNext is something I love as I believe that the opportunity to be a part of GenNext in previous years contributed to growing Stevie English Hair’s reputation,” Stevie added. “This will be the fourth GenNext that I have worked on and I’m super excited for you to see our design team’s work… we have such talent and I love playing my role in that. Matrix will bring a show and do it differently to what we have delivered over the last few years.”
The teams are currently preparing for their no-doubt creative, bold and thematic performances. We can’t wait to see what’s in store.
The GenNext Gala takes place from 7:30pm on Sunday 10 June at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC). Tickets are priced at $159 and include a drink on arrival. Visit www.hairexpoaustralia.com for more information and to purchase.
