From the moment you walked into the runway for Lee Mathews Resort, you knew why this brand had carefully selected like-minded hair partner De Lorenzo in combining forces to not only create beauty but to make a stand in protecting the planet while doing so, writes Ida Almasi.
With a long lawn of natural grass shaping the runway, this eco-collection showcased a grounding palette of creams and clays with accents of red, yellow and blue. These colours appear across a hybrid of natural textiles and fabrics — from organic cottons to a zero-waste Italian linen and ethically sourced silks.
The hair look, created by Alan White for De Lorenzo, accented the collection giving natural texture to each girl. With the hair pulled back in a low ponytail and a subtle barrel curl used to open up the face creating a fresh look, Alan finished the hair off with De Lorenzo Ocean Mist Spray to create an undone feel mirroring the effortless collection.
“I’m thrilled to partner with De Lorenzo ahead of Lee Mathews Resort showcase, the collection oozes natural beauty with soft lines, and takes influences from nature,” said hair director Alan White. “The brand’s Elements range mirrors those natural instincts and will assist in creating elegant movement as the model’s walk the show.”
This human-nature theme explores more sustainable practices across the brand and has resulted in Creative Director Lee Mathews, along with newly appointed Head Designer Natalia Grzybowski, designing their most sustainable collection to date. Whilst continuing Mathews signature use in natural textiles (biodegradable and organic) she is working with fabrics from mills at the forefront of waste, energy and water reduction.
Official makeup partner Guerlain, a brand who has had a strong sustainability program in place for over a decade, provided the runway look. Makeup director Claire Thomson created a look with Guerlain’s iconic customisable lipstick Rouge G, using one universal shade to create a look that is sun-kissed, French style stain and a nod to the 90’s natural beauty.
“We worked with the incredible texture of the Rouge G lipstick to create a fresh berry stain in the centre of the lips, blending out and working the colour across the cheeks and bridge of the nose for a healthy glow,” explained Claire Thomson for Guerlain.
Collectively, the show featured designs with a clear vision of hope and change in the beauty and fashion industries, representing a future where the environment is no longer an absent factor in the manufacturing process.
How To:
- Alan placed a centre part in the hair using a pintail comb and added a little De Lorenzo Elements Titanium to hold in place
- Next, dependent on hair type, Alan applied either the De Lorenzo Elements Barrel Wave, Sea Swell or Motion Texture Mousse to the hair with a wide tooth comb to evenly distribute the chosen product into the hair
- Then Alan created a finger wave around the hairline to open the face, using super single curl clip pins to hold in place whilst it dried
- Alan then finger dried hair using a diffuser, which created and enhanced natural movement
- Once the hair was 90% dry, Alan finished beautifying the ends with a medium round brush to close the cuticle
- With a round barrel brush, Alan and the team created lift at the crown giving the feeling of lightness
- Dependent on the hair type, Alan applied a small amount of the De Lorenzo Allevi8 Shine Serum or Thermal Argan Oil to the hair starting at the ends. Running hands through hair for even distribution and layering product where needed
