A dreamy pink-tinged, chandelier adorned runway set the stage for alice McCALL, making way for bright prints and bold patterns straight from the 70s, transporting lucky Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW) guests decades backwards, in all its rose-coloured glory. Wella and hair director Keiren Street complemented this dream with the necessarily nostalgic hair.
“The hair look for alice McCALL is 1970s Cosmopolitan editorial covers that I grew up with,” Keiren shared. “Alice has a huge inspiration in vintage obviously as you can see by her outfits. I kind of wanted to delve deep into the archive and go back to my childhood.”
“The hair, beauty and fashion teams sat back and did a workshop on what we loved about the 70s and 80s. There’s a nod to Joan Jett and the Pretenders, there’s a nod to Farah Fawcett, there’s a nod to Christie Brinkley, there’s a glam moment and so it’s all eras within the same kind of time period.”
Wella Glam Mist was the hero product, with Body Crafter and Dry Me as important team players.
This 70s style hair was complemented by bold beauty – and by bold we mean everything from smoky eyes, to heavy sweeping green eye shadow and stars painted on faces, individually, not together, but still. This full look adorned fashion looks that saw thigh high bright coloured boots, sparkly leotards, feather details, tie-dye inspired prints and the reincarnation of disco itself.
From set to makeup, hair and fashion, alice McCALL was an unforgettable show.
