Hairdressing fellowship Intercoiffure Australia has unveiled plans for a revamped, comprehensive calendar for 2022, with a program that incorporates business and creative development for junior and senior hairdressers, as well as business owners.
There are big changes with Intercoiffure including new President Jas Jhally of Jas International, Perth and a new board. With this updated personnel, the program will include the second annual G.O.A.T. competition for apprentices, which fuses social media skills and creative work, and format entries via Instagram Reels for the first time. The competition will open on Tuesday, February 1 with uploading open from February 16 to 22, with winners to be announced at the Fashion Directors and Chairperson’s Forum in Canberra on March 6.
Other events will include business and creative education for local salon owners in Griffith, NSW, presented by National Fashion Director Terrina Brown and hosted by Board Member Alison Matthews.
“We wish to help from the outside in, with the aim that salons will become Intercoiffure members,” said Terrina. “It’s a grassroots, hands-on approach to let salon owners learn our business tips as well as about the benefits of Intercoiffure in terms of friendship, education and development.”
Another focus will be annual ‘Highlights’ collection, which will be shared with global hairdressing media in April to elevate the platform of the group.
“This gets our creative work out to the broader industry and connects us with other Intercoiffure members globally,” Terrina said.
Another major update will be to the national Intercoiffure Photographic competition, which will now expand its geographic limitations.
“In 2022, the competition broadens its geographic scope by inviting all countries in the Intercoiffure Oceania region to enter so this includes member salons from South Africa and New Zealand as well as Australia,” Terrina said.
Other important events include the traditional Australian National Congress in October. More activities centred on young hairdressers are also on the cards, with an updated Intercoiffure Australia website to be launched and an updated logo also in development.
