We spoke to Kaine Vakai, Founder of Kaine Vakai Hair Artistry, about secret talents, fashion, the hair industry and much more.
How would you describe the Kaine Vakai Hair Artistry style aesthetic?
The salon itself is bright with neutral tones. The hair is natural, as well as high impact blondes.
What was your first ever hair job?
Working as an apprentice in my mum’s salon. Safe to say hairdressing was an outlet for me at a young age.
What is one fashion item you couldn’t live without?
An iconic shoe!
What do you love most about collaborating with other artists?
Bringing two perspectives together and offering two points of view on hair. Learning from others and sharing our way is where the magic happens in our industry.

What is your favourite fashion label and why?
Prada – it’s simple and edgy.
A quote that you live by?
This isn’t really a quote but for me – hustle, hustle, hustle!
Favourite musical artist?
Lady Gaga.
What do you consider a lost art in hair?
Playing with colour and trying new formulas.
What is your secret talent?
It’s not so secret in the industry or within my network now, but I can do the splits.
How have we seen hair colouring change in the last few years?
Glossing and toning has become just as important as a full colour service or a crucial part of the overall service. It’s so technical and in depth these days to ensure a leading result. This is where Redken is always by my side as a brand of choice.
Favourite hair colour right now?
High impact, creamy, lived in blonde.
