We’re officially weeks into 2018 and still somehow writing 2017 on forms, but the new year is well and truly underway and with it, a lot to look forward to on the hairdressing calendar.
There’s brand related competitions, philanthropic events, runway shows and salon occasions we’ll be telling you about throughout the next 12 months (don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of notice) but today we’re highlighting some of the main dates you should already have circled in red this year.
What are you looking forward to?
1. Hair Expo – June 9-11
It’s an even-numbered year, which means that Hair Expo is heading back to Melbourne in its alternating cycle between Melbourne and Sydney. The Melbourne iteration of the event debuted to major acclaim in 2016, and it will be back at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre this year, with new technologies, education, events and the highlight Hair Expo Awards all included. Start booking your flights.
2. MBFWA – May 13-17
Fashion and hair continue to go hand in hand, and Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia is the pinnacle of that agenda. Look forward to a full week of constant shows, a multitude of brands and Hair Directors and looks ranging from commercial to editorial and completely Avant Garde. We’ll have the social snaps and show reports to you instantly, if you can’t actually book a seat at Carriageworks.
3. National Hairstylist Appreciation Day – April 30
This semi-serious global day dedicated to hairdressers falls on Monday this year, meaning many of you will be out of the salon, enjoying the day meant to be all about you. We have three words for you…
4. The Australian Hair Fashion Awards – April 15
Australian Hair’s glitziest night will be back at Luna Park for the 26th year, under new sponsor KEVIN.MURPHY and with new award categories and surprises in store. Last year, special guests such as Dannii Minogue, Pia Miller and Havana Brown proved standouts, as Damien Rinaldo took out the highly coveted title of Australian Hairdresser of the Year. The possibilities are endless when it comes to the guests, winners and attractions in 2018.
5. INSTYLE January February
The first issue of INSTYLE 2018 is a calendar within this calendar update, offering the latest new year news, products and events, but also including our annual education supplement, which will outline the programs, dates, brands and locations you need to elevate your skills this year. With a new online calendar component in the works, you can survey and book the education classes that appeal to you, making 2018 an official year of professional growth.
