2022 is another year that affirms the progression of individuality and self-expression as a paramount trend and your clients embracing their natural curls is vital in this endeavour.
Leading curl specialist Rumbie Mutsiwa of RUMBIE & CO. is talking curl trends, having created her curly hair salon space from 2014, and with her own curly hair product range to her name as well, she’s ideally positioned to see what style, cut and colour trends are elevating curls. Take Rumbie’s lead to cater to your curly hair clients.
Fringes
“If you have previously been told curly-haired people can’t have a fringe, I may be the bearer of great news, it’s possible for looser wavy and curly textures. Whether fuller or lighter in density, but definitely with some texture, your clients will be winning. It’s a fresh change for sure,” Rumbie said.
Middle Parts
“Gen Z approved – middle parts are having a fierce comeback, whether with longer or shorter layers around the face,” Rumbie said. “If the middle part is appearing harsh for the face shape or a low hairline try creating some asymmetry by tucking hair behind one ear.”
The Wolf Cut
“The Wolf Cut is a huge style for 2022! Nothing says have fun, be daring and be confident like this variation on the mullet. Whether keeping it longer or shorter, it’s a versatile style for all textures,” Rumbie said.
The Shag
“The retro shag is so versatile,” Rumbie said. “With minimal or maxed out layers, this dynamic style is great for movement, choppiness, carefree styling and can also still be demure. The shag works for most hair textures including wavy , curly and looser afro textures and face shapes, and can be varied in length.”
Warm Tones
“Brassy has basically been a dirty word in the hair colour game for decades now, but it seems 2022 will see us leaning far more willingly toward warmth. Warm honey blondes are so in right now and will be throughout the 2022,” Rumbie said.
