The Australian Hairdressing Council (AHC) have launched the second annual Love Your Hairdresser Month in November, starting a feel good campaign that emboldens clients nation-wide to show appreciation to their hairdressers and barbers and their important role in the community, which has been ever-affirmed by the pandemic. With national salon doors open and trading through the festive season, and so many first calls after lockdown being to the salon, it’s never been more apparent how essential hairdressing is.
“A trip to the salon becomes an afternoon of respite for many people that helps to promote self-esteem and confidence. Hairdressers and barbers do more than just cut and colour hair, they nurture a sense of personal wellbeing,” said AHC CEO Sandy Chong.
The campaign first launched in 2020 and this year joins with American Express’ Shop Small initiative to elevate it further. The support generated by the initiative can incorporate buying products, services and gift vouchers, as well as giving reviews and spreading the word to family, friends and on social media.
“Many salons are run by small business owners. American Express’ Shop Small initiative incentivises consumers to spend with local, small businesses – which is exactly what hairdressers and barbers need,” Sandy said. “Throughout November, Love Your Hairdresser Month is celebrating the return of the hairdressing and barbering community, their contribution to wellbeing and value of small business.”
“We know that many small businesses need a bumper festive season this year to survive into 2022,” added Lisa Belcher, Vice President, Small and Medium Enterprises A/NZ, Global Merchant Services, American Express. “Hairdressers and barbers need high spending, repeat customers more than ever before. Through the backing of American Express’ marketing program, including initiatives like Shop Small, it was a natural fit to align with ‘Love Your Hairdresser Month’ as we help salons attract these types of customers.”
The initiative will run throughout November, as the AHC encourages the hairdressing community to spread the word for clients, with social media tiles and resources available via the AHC website. Use the tags #loveyourhairdressermonth #sharethelove #theahc and #ShopSmall.
So get behind the movement and let’s celebrate our industry, make some noise about the significance of salons and see that message translate in dollars too – we all know we deserve it.
