Australia’s own Blade Pullman, who recently won our national American Crew All Star competition in Melbourne, travelled to New York and took home the global title as well. In a major move for the competition, Blade and USA entrant Emma Jankowski were named dual winners at the brand’s 25th anniversary celebration.
“This year’s event not only marked American Crew’s 25th anniversary, but also the first time the judging panel couldn’t decide on just one winner for the All-Star Challenge,” said Gillian Gorman Round, Global General Manager of American Crew. “The two winning styles from Blade Pullman and Emma Jankowski were so different but struck a unique balance, showcasing what we saw as the heritage, present and future of the American Crew man.”
Blade and Emma tied in the race for first place as they competed in a pool of 14 hairdressers, narrowed down from all the international All Star winners this year. The finale involved a two day photo shoot with American Crew founder David Raccuglia, with judging scrutinising the creativity, technical ability and personification of American Crew in each entry.
For their win, Blade and Emily have received $USD10,000, the All Star Challenge Global Champion trophy, an invitation to be judges in the 2020 challenge, a full scholarship to the brand’s education program and editorial support.
“For a stylist that is just starting out in his career, it has been amazing to be around all of the talented All-Star Challenge contestants. This experience has truly instilled in me the culture of the barbering community and how impactful this competition is for our industry,” Blade said.
“Having completed this journey, my biggest advice to other barbers would be to enter this competition,” Emma agreed. “This has been one of the best experiences of my life.”
Congratulations to our own export for representing Australia with aplomb!
