Australia’s own renowned dry haircutter, Tara Walker of Mousey Browne, has been awarded for her innovative skills as a finalist at the international OneShot Hair Awards, nominated in the categories of Natural Texture and Cutting Transformation.
Tara opened Mousey Browne salon in Sydney’s Surry Hills in 2016, pioneering the craft of dry haircutting and finding a niche that appealed to clients who booked up the salon’s appointments. The service appeals to clients who can spend less time in the salon, working with the natural texture and movement of the hair as it takes shape while being cut. This ensures clients can see the shape of the hair being formed during the cut, and can more easily recreate styles themselves.
“I wanted to create a salon where people can get an awesome haircut, in a short amount of time, and then get on with their day – looking good and feeling sharp,” Tara said. “No shampoo, no blow-dry, just a high-quality haircut that you know how to handle and re-create. Plus a whiskey refreshment if the mood strikes. That’s it. These are the options at Mousey Browne.”
“Reaching the finals of the ‘OneShot’ Hair Awards, in both Natural Texture and Cutting Transformation categories, is the highlight of my career and justification of taking the road less travelled.”
Tara will attend the Oneshot Hair Awards in Washington DC on August 25. On her trip she will also visit the ‘Hairbrained’ studio in NYC – home to the world’s leading digital and social based community for #crafthairdressers and colourists, where she will lead a Facebook Live session (29th of August) on Dry Haircutting. When back in Australia, Tara will be leading a series of dry haircutting education events and sessions in her salon and around the country – a worthy skill for hairdressers to learn from the best.
Good to luck to Tara in her nominations!
