Earth Month is happening through April for the good of the planet, and Aveda continues to use this time to ramp up their eco-conscious efforts even more than usual. The brand and their ambassador, Elyse Knowles, have created a tote bag with 100 per cent of the price of the product purchase going to charity partner WaterAid, which provides clean water to the less fortunate. More specifically, the full $30 from every purchase will go to obtaining clean water for communities in South India region of Andhra Pradesh.
Aveda has raised over $60 million in Earth Month donations since 1999, with clean water being their charity of choice for over a decade. This cause can grow local communities, improve health and build education, ending the cycle of poverty. The brand’s partnership with WaterAid raises this awareness, attempting to reduce the stats that see a newborn baby die from infection cause d by unclean water every minute – a horrible statistic that may seem shocking to us here in Australia.
This year, funds and knowledge is being raised with the tote bag designed by Elyse, and made with one of the world’s fastest growing plants and biodegradable resources bamboo. The design features symbolic tributes to the earth, water and Aveda’s mission to ‘be the change’.
“I am so excited to collaborate on this tote with Aveda! We share so many of the same beliefs and ideas around how to better educate others about sustainability and access to clean water,” Elyse said. “In Australia, we are very lucky to have clean running taps and flushing toilets. We take this for granted but other countries are not so fortunate. The Aveda tote bag is a wonderful way to raise funds and awareness for WaterAid. Using the bag for a trip to the market, the shopping centre or the green grocer is also an incredibly easy way to take a step towards eco-friendly living. Every little bit helps!”
“We are a business that relies on clean water to make our beautiful products and to deliver our renowned Aveda salon services, so during Earth Month we believe we have a responsibility to give back,” added Aveda Australia Brand General Manager Clint Piper. “As somebody who leads by example, who better than Elyse to drive our fundraising message of which I hope consumers can be part of in some way.”
