It’s been a big year for renowned Australian hairdresser Pauline McCabe from Western Australia’s Rock Paper Scissors. The hair artist was nominated for the title of Australian Hairdresser of the Year and spent weeks in Europe styling hair backstage at both Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks 2022. Pauline shares her backstage insights on the hero looks from four shows across these two fashion capitals.
At the Etro show in Milan, detailed hair became a Fashion Week stylistic statement, with multi-layered plaits and braids sculpted into futuristic shapes with a nod to traditional cultural braids. Pauline worked with ghd and O&M to create these unique looks.
The star-studded Givency show in Paris featured celebrities on and off the runway, with the fashion show led by and stand out looks sported by none other than world famous super model sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid. The hair look had a sleek, nostalgic 90s vibe, where the top half of the hair was slicked directly back and clasped at the crown. The show was led by Duffy and featured an impressive 51 models.
Hair for Vaquera New York City was an eclectic mix of natural textures, wet looks and futuristic gothic shapes. Pauline assisted show leader Lucas Wilson, in a runway show that captured global attention, pushing this underground label to the forefront of the fashion world.
For Lucille Thievre, hairdressers worked with long blonde hair wefts marked with horizontal black lines as hero looks, while other styles included strong hair shapes that were emphasised by a dampened wet feel. The classically Parisian show was set with red velvet chairs for the guests and ornate soaring French ceilings, with hair led by Karim Belghiran.
Australian talent in the European hair fashion scene is always welcome. Well done to Pauline for being backstage at some of the world’s most important shows.
