We spoke with the CEO/Hairdresser of Sachajuan Hair Care, Sacha Mitic, for an international perspective on hair products, style, trends and so much more.
What are some hair trends you’re loving at the moment?
Shorter cute cuts with sensual movements.
Could you tell us one of your career highlights?
In the 90s when I landed in New York for my next step as a session stylist. I got the opportunity to work with great titles such as Allure, Vogue, Cosmopolitan, New Yorker, Fashion of the Times, ELLE and more. I also had the opportunity to meet and work with celebrities like Lauren Hutton, Diane von Furstenberg, Bianca Jagger and Cameron Diaz. I’m very thankful for my time in New York, I got to develop my skills and mind.
What are some of your favourite Sachajuan hair care products?
The whole line, when it comes down to specific products it all depends on what I will create and the starting point of the texture I’m working on.
How would you describe Australians’ style when it comes to beauty and hair?
The world is connected more than ever through digital channels. This gives us access to all news, movements and changes at the same time around the world and streamlines the view on fashion and beauty. The different climate does have impact. Australia has more of a hot beach climate and this will create variations on how people approach their looks and hair compared to a cooler continent.
What cut and colour are you loving right now?
To break up textures and to emphasise the movement. When it comes to colour, I emphasise the natural colours to make them pop out.
What do you predict will be the biggest hair trend of 2023?
Looking at fashion, including a wider and loose silhouette. I think we will see more of shorter hair, it doesn’t mean it only has to be boyish. The long hair will always stay as it is a very classic attribute, but young fashionable youth will react on the glamorous looks that have been in focus for a decade and there will be a different approach and a reaction on how to express femininity. This usually takes longer than a year to break through and to become a commercial trend with the public.
What’s something you can’t live without?
Love, air, water.
How do you start your mornings?
When I’m in Stockholm I start my mornings walking my Jack Russell Bob, then a cup of coffee and checking my emails. I do some stretching followed up with a shower and head off to the office.
What is a quote you live by?
Be positive, optimistic and be aware of what you wish for.
Name three desert island hair products or tools you couldn’t live without.
Scissors, comb and Sachajuan Hair Repair.
Name a song that will always get you dancing.
Lust for life, Iggy Pop.
What’s something you would like people to know about your brand?
It has been a process of 40 years of professional work to understand how, what and why. We created high quality products that would support professionals in their work while, at the same time, ensuring we help consumers maintain their results and have easy products to work with – products that give you control but don’t control you.
