Welcome the S Event Upcycled, a sophomore outing for a hair industry specific sustainability event, as brought to you by Box Hill Institute and Sustainable Salons. The event will take place for just one night in Melbourne on Monday May 27, featuring at the end of Knowledge Week and promising a colourful, energetic stage show ode to the planet and how we can help it.
The event follows its successful inaugural predecessor, which took place in Sydney in 2017. The new iteration will again feature revolutionary sustainability thinkers and activists for eco-inspired entertainment. The event leaves the audience with the message and necessary know-how to embrace a more sustainable future.
Knowledge Week at large is an annual community celebration of smart and unique worldly solutions designed to improve Melbourne’s already award-winning standard of living, and the Deputy Lord Mayor of the City of Melbourne, Arron Wood, will host the evening as MC. Arron has a particular affinity for sustainability, having won 18 sustainability accolades, including the United Nations Individual Award for Outstanding Service to the Environment, which will be sure to invigorate the audience with a passion for environmental activism.
From a creative standpoint, Shaun McGrath, Avant Garde Hairdresser of the Year and Sustainable Salons Creative Ambassador, will lead a team of students from the Box Hill Institute in a hair show of headpieces made entirely from found objects and discarded salon materials. Other speakers and entertainers are still to be announced, while funds from the show will go towards EDVOS, which trains hairdressers on how to identify and deal with domestic violence if they see their clients going through it. $5 from every ticket sold will be donated to this fantastic cause and go towards women and children who are experiencing family violence.
As Box Hill and Sustainable Salons continue to better our industry and put the planet first, come along to a show set to inspire your creative mind and philanthropic soul. The line-up, the cause and the talent sounds like a breath of fresh air
