Event organisers BHA Media have today confirmed the rescheduling of the inaugural Hair Festival from 13-14 June 2021 to September 2021. The rescheduled event will take place at the original venue, Carriageworks, in Sydney.

After Victoria’s current lockdown was extended by a further seven days to end 10 June 2021, Event Director Bethanie Tobin says rescheduling the event was simply the right thing to do in solidarity with the hair industry.

“Over a quarter of our visitors are from Victoria, along with a huge number of speakers, educators, stand-holders, sponsors and support crews. So while we’re confident the event would have been a great success, going ahead without our friends and colleagues from the industry in Victoria was simply unthinkable to us,” she said.

Organisers have confirmed the event will take place at the same venue, Carriageworks in Sydney, in September 2021. Further confirmation of the dates in September will follow in the coming days. Organisers also confirmed that constituent components of the Hair Festival event, including REALtalk, MarketPlace, Hair Festival Wonderland, Festival Education Sessions, Hair Festival Competitions and The Australian Hairdressing Council’s (The AHC) Schmoozefest will all move to the rescheduled September date.

Ticket-holders and registrations will be automatically transferred to the new date so no action is required at this stage.

“We’re of course bitterly disappointed that we’ll not be able to bring the industry together for the marquee event we all deserve until later in the year,” said Craig Hawtin-Butcher, Managing Director of the Hair Festival organisers BHA Media. “However we’re absolutely confident the programme and entire festival will only get bigger and better for September.”

Mocha Publishing, organisers of the AHIA awards, have announced that the gala dinner will still go ahead as planned on Monday 14 June. “I’m so proud of the collaboration we’ve achieved thus far with Hair Festival, which we look forward to re-aligning with in 2022,” says Linda Woodhead, owner of the AHIAs. “We are heartbroken for our friends and colleagues in Victoria, but based on all the feedback we have received from finalists, guests and sponsors, the general consensus, when it comes to the awards, is to go ahead with the event and announce the winners as planned.”

Mocha will be communicating more information to current AHIA ticket holders in the coming days.
