Helmet Hair Co. is celebrating its very successful first year of business, with a birthday party complete with the requisite cupcakes, champagne and balloons. The salon, located in Nundah, Brisbane, is the work of celebrated hairdresser Craig Smith, acting as a follow up to his Fruition salon and merging his two passions – hair and motorcycles.
The salon/creative hub boasts a unique business model, where clients are encouraged to pay less but visit more and it prioritises professional, experienced and cutting-edge services. It also has a unique aesthetic based on industrial glamour, otherwise described as motorcycle chic.
“Helmet is about more than just hair for me,” Craig shared when the salon launched last year. “It looks and feels very different and certainly doesn’t rest on Fruition’s laurels. Our price list proudly states ‘no nasty add-ons, just cool hair’ and with that comes a more casual laid back vibe. I find the space is incredibly inspiring for the team and clients alike, but there is no style without substance. While the salon has its own identity, it was only ever going to work for me if the Fruition customer felt just as confident coming to get their hair done here. It’s been a dream of mine for many years to create Helmet Hair Co. and to see it coming together is one of the most exciting moments in my career.”
In its first year, the salon is already finding extreme success, with a flourishing, family-style relationship with staff and clients, and multiple award nominations (Australian Hair Industry Awards Newcomer, Salon Stylist and Salon Manager of the Year) already in the books. The staff list has quadrupled in size and the trajectory is pointing up. Happy birthday Helmet Hair Co.!
