Welcome GOAT 21, a new Instagram competition specifically for apprentices and offered by Intercoiffure Australia. The competition has been built to allow these emerging hairdressers that are part of Intercoiffure salons a chance to show off their skills and the great work they do with client looks and imbue the salons with the frenetic and dynamic energy of competition, with entries simply snapped on smart phones in the salons and uploaded as entries.

“We’ve had fun naming the competition GOAT, the acronym for ‘greatest of all time’ for 2021,” said Intercoiffure Australia Artistic Director, Terrina Brown of Zedz in Perth.  “Industry, friends and family will be invited to ‘like’ their favourite looks with each ‘like’ earning the entrant one point.”

The judging system is comprised of this social media system, with other judging conducted by L’Oréal Professionnel Australia, Intercoiffure Guillaume Fondation (Paris) and selected Intercoiffure world members. The judging will survey the looks against criteria of hairdressing skills, suitability for the client and commercial appeal. Prizes will include a trophy, flowers and a L’Oréal Professionnel education class. 

“We encourage all members of the industry to support our apprentices and vote,” Terrina said. “Intercoiffure Australia is proud to be supporting Australian apprentices in this way and we hope that the word about their hairdressing filters into the greater community through social media. It’s a great way to promote the industry.”

Entries will be uploaded to Instagram from 18 to 20 April, as filed under the hashtags #Intercoiffureau_1Styling21 for first year styling and #Intercoiffureau_CutColour21 for cut and colour in first, second and third year apprenticeships. Voters can search the hashtag to choose their favourites and like accordingly, with voting concluding on 9am AEST, 28 April.
