The Victorian Government is offering a rebate scheme for small business salons in Victoria with a payroll under $10 million. These salons can get a government rebate on the purchase of HEPA filter purifiers.
Salons can apply by September 8 and purchase the purifier by November 15 to obtain this $500 rebate. The government will otherwise match dollar for dollar a grant between $1000 to $5000 for purchasing purifiers for business premises. Apply by 8 September and purchase before 15 November to utilise these opportunities.
Victoria’s chief health officer, Brett Sutton, has said that ventilation improvements can help reduce the long-term impacts of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases, which is important for both hairdressers and clients.
Hairdressers in salon breathe up to 9,000 litres of air every day when spending so much of their time in salon, and indoor air can be five times more polluted than the air outside, with potentially harmful gasses released by air fresheners, hair sprays, aerosols, and formaldehyde. Particles as small as 0.1 microns in allergens, bacteria, pollen and mould spores can exist in the salon.
Dyson’s purification tackles these pollutants at every level, capturing 99.95 per cent of particles and trapping them within a sealed HEPA-13 filter. Dyson engineers analysed the results from Dyson Australia Stylist Ambassador Renya Xydis’ salon, looking at particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), VOCs and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) to develop these technologies.
“The sensing technology in Dyson’s purifiers detect particle and gas pollution, displays real-time air quality reports on the machine’s LCD and Dyson Link app, and automatically reacts to the changing environment,” said Dyson Electronics engineer in Environmental Care, Dai Jin Lee. “Keeping shared spaces more hygienic is now more important and the data shows periodic patterns of VOC events that could be related to salon activities such as hair sprays and cleaning sprays, which result in our purifiers being able to detect, filter out the VOCs and bring the concentration down.”
